Winner:
There was an old man in the square
Who thought he could capture a mare
With crown on his head
He caught camels instead
So he gave up the chase in despair
Allison Ross

Second Place:
There was an old man in the square
whose camel was blinded by glare.
His humps wore red specs
To keep out the effects,
but their feet hurt like poor Fred Astaire.
Louis Harris

Joint third place:
There was an old man in the square
Whose camel suffered from glare
The girls got the hump
When he told them go jump
"I'm not buying you Ray Bans, so there!"
Ginny

There was an old man in the square
Who seemed to be stuck to his chair
When the man died
The entire square cried
and they buried the man in his chair.
Louis Harris

There was an old man in the square
and we thought it just wasn't fair
that he had a ball
and we, none at all
so we kicked him to see how he'd fare.
Mimi
Also Rans:
There was an old man in the square
Who screamed out, "it just ain't fair!"
A camel glanced
feeling rather advanced
For he knew too well, no-one would care.
Lynette Mullins

There was an old man in the square
With silver crown hiding his hair,
His camel showed glee
At presents all three
Wearing sunspecs to block out the glare
Mandy

There was an old man in the square
who wrestled a big Russian bear
We paid him a shilling
to see the bear's filling
and now the old man isn't there...
Jim

There was an old man in the square
Who simply had no time to care
He made the boss cross,
And said, "You're a loss!"
So the boss threw him out by his hair.
Jo De Lange

There was an old man in the square
'round Christmas, and met there a pair
of girls in a hump
(they each were a bump),
which was better than if they'd been bare.

Thanks for the prize!

I just wanted to say thank you for my lovely Exclusive Books book token.

This actually set my day back by about 2 hours of wandering around this literary Aladdin’s Cave.

I stood in EB like some sort of country bumpkin, all thoughts of good book reviews gone straight out of my head, and just stared at all these piles of marvellous books. All of them cooing “Take me! Take me!”  I am one of those people who have trouble with a four page menu….so imagine the indecision! Should I go for two paperbacks or one hardcover?

Travel? Biography? A good novel? Yes, but which one?

Or maybe, hang on - Hollywood Uncovered – the murky side of Tinseltown revealed?  Naah.

A worthy tome about Africa or Mbeki? Naah.

A new consignment of Jake White’s book was being stacked out and people were grabbing copies but I wasn’t going to waste my token on that!

In the end I surprised myself and chose JM Coetzee’s Dairy of a Bad Year. I know he’s a good writer but I haven’t enjoyed a JM Coetzee since The Life of Michael K. His later books became  more and more depressing and cold, and I went off him completely. But when I opened this, I couldn’t put it down. So I’m really looking forward to reading it, starting tonight. Thank you, Mandy!!

Love
Ginny
